Day 108

So today was the closing ceremony. I slept in and then got up to clean and do my hair. unfortunately it was raining, and Japan is very humid so it proved to be a fail but i managed. I was giving a speech today and was a little nervous. I volunteered to give a speech on behalf of the 1st years, and I did ok, It's just tough, I'm enclosing it today so that you can see some of what I've been working on these past few months.

Here ya go:

What I said was:

Nice to meet you, And then my name.

Living in Japan has been fun. I came to Japan on January first and when i came i couldn't not speak any japanese. But Now I can. I've met lots of Japanese people, and we've have conversations. I also like to travel and was able to travel to Hiroshima, Kyoto, and Tokyo for example. Japan is a beautiful place, but Hikone is the most beautiful. I had a homestay near hikone with he Tsuchida family. They were very nice and fed me delicious food such as gyoza and sushi. We went to shigaraki and we made pottery. It was a very fund weekend.

Studying japanese has been difficult, but living in japan was great. One day, I will bring my family here.

JCMU, Hikone, and staff thank you very much.

It was rough, but I did it. I only forgot two lines. But hey I made it. Hopefully one day I will be able to speak at normal pace, but Im happy this journey is coming to an end.

Day 107

Things just keep progressing here.

Today I had my final class of my undergraduate career. It is so surreal. No more college for me.... for now. I am so proud and excited to be done. 9 days until I can call my self a Michigan Alum.

We had presentations today and we also ate int he cafeteria. Last week school started for Japanese students and this week school was in ful swing. It was crowded in the cafe, and even outside the caf. And it was a beautiful day. this evening my conversation partner to be to a tapa's restaurant, and I have pics.

Day 106

Today was my final exam, wish me luck, send up your prayers, gotta make it.

I went exploring on this day and I enjoyed myself. It was also my DELTAversary, marking 3 years since I joined, so it was great reflecting with my sands.

And I have pics. Enjoy!

So I went to Hikone Jo and did Hanami, basically got food and sake and ate under the trees

Day 104

Today was my last day of class, well for nihongo anyway, I have Japanese politics on thursday. I'm excited. I went to the bank to do my last travelers check exchange, and went by Hikone Castle to view a tid bit of the sakura. Apparently they bloom for a short while, so I wanted to make sure I didn't miss them if I waited until Wednesday to do Hanami.

Here are some pics:

Day 103

I slept this weekend, still had the cold yesterday so no Hanami for me. I worked on a group project today and then studied for my listening comprehension test tomorrow. Wish me luck. One more day of class, exam on wednesday. so studying needs to be my best friends.

But all in all, I'm trying not to be anxious, and do like the pastor said in today's message and be still. But this time next week I will be landing on American soil. And I get to see my mommy, this is making me tear up so I'm going to stop now.

I can make this official in less than two weeks.

Don't hate me for posting this mommy,

Day 101

It's day 101 and whose excited, (looks around room) ME! 9 days left and whew and I ready to come back. I have a job secure, and official graduation is around the corner. The Lord has been blessing me.

I had a presentation today where I had to speak in Japanese for 6 entire minutes about an experience I had in Japan. It went well. No official grade, but I'm praying for the best. I also volunteered to give a speech at our closing ceremony. When I practice it I will upload a recording. So wish me luck on that.

As of right now I'm sick. look:
this is not what's up especially when a few days ago I was all smiles

see

not a nice way to spend one of my last weekends in Japan. I have plans to go in on studying for my final so I guess it's not such a bad thing. I'm starting to pack. We ship one of our luggages to the airport so it's getting real.

If I get better tomorrow I'm going to try and go to Hikone Castle to for the Sakura and Hinami. And that should be nice, and if not next week before I leave.

OK, wish me well

Day 94 and 95

So this weekend I went to the wonderful city of TOKYO. I was excited, I mean I'm in Japan, I have to go to tokyo. All the other cities I have been to have been great experiences, but this is the one place I've wanted to go to. so let me take you through my journey.

So the 8 hour train ride. I don't think I explained these trains that well in my Hiroshima post, but Japan's public transportation system is simply bomb. I mean think of traveling from Detroit to DC by multiple trains in only 8 hours for about $75. Not that bad. And For you megabus lovers, these trains are consistant, you can leave at numerous times in the day, and Japan trains are on time. It's like taking a the Metra in Illinois, but across the country. But back to my story.

Here are some pics of the cities I changed trains in

This is Hanamatsu i believe

An Ice cream sandwich I bought, that's a cone

the inside,

During my ride, I tried to stay on the Look out for Mount Fuji, and what do you know I found it

Mt. Fuji in the distance. It's actually 2.3 miles above sea level, so it looks small from the distance I'm at

again

Honestly this was the highlight of the ride, How many people can say they've seen Mt. Fuji

I finally made it to Tokyo

the night sky

Me taking pics on the way to my hostel

There were these cool boats, people were eating on them, they looked like big covered Gondolas, sorry about the picture quality

my bed on the bottom buck at the hostel

another blurry pic, i forgot to take another before I left.

There were 8 total beds, and 6 other people inside with me. It seemed like everyone was a different nationality. It was an interesting experience. I don't see my self as a backpacking type. But a cheap way to rest your head on an excursion. I'm happy I took the risk and tried something new. But the whole sharing your space with people you don't know is not my thing. They provided lockers for private storage, but if you had something bigger than a small book bag, you had to keep it in the open. It was like living in a dorm. But less bathrooms and showers.

went to the dollar store and saw these. $1 v-necks. I bought one as a pajama top. A little thin but served it's purpose.

The little street the hostel was on. That red sign on the left was my hostel.

The water.

So my hostel was located in Asakusa, Tokyo, which is known for it's shrine. It was near the places I wanted to visit, but I'm happy I got to see a traditional place.

Kaminari Gate, entrance to the temple area

My next stop was Shibuya, a popular shopping area.

the streets of Shibuya

Where I ate lunch, this place called Bikini Tapas, yes it's a spanish restaurant

My tapas, from left to right, this hummus tasting thing, that didn't taste so bad once I bit into the raisen, next was some type of meat, then salmon, cream cheese and avocado, I don't know the next one, and finally a crab salad with shrimp

The is the meat the cut my tapa froms

My main dish, some rice, oysters, crawfish, shrimp, and fish I believe. Delicious.

And for dessert, creme brule

Walking outside of the mall area in which I ate

So I stopped in a pet store and saw the cutest dogs.

he was just rolling around

Here's another cutie, but lowkey, his eyes kinda scare me

the cutie

Oh how I want my own little dog, I mean like my own that lives with me, cause I do have a great dog at home. But with dogs come a lot of responsibility. We shall see. But anyway

busy streets

I love H&M

And this one was 4 stories so I had to go inside

Shibuya was cool, a lot of popular stores. I feel like Japan's loves it labels because once again, and in every litte borough i visited i saw lots of designer stores. But my next stop was Harajuku.

I was like look at this cool store, those butterfly pics are made up of shoes, and it turned out to be nike

I don't know why the pic didn't turn, but cool entrance for a new store coming soon

city view

below are just some things I spotted at the store

These cool glasses I bought, For some reason I bought them thinking they were sunglasses, the fact that they weren't tinted just slipped my mind. I'm going to try and turn them into sunglasses, cause I already have to wear contacts to put these on.

side view

These are dog clothes, so cute, they even had a doggy kimono

Free Hugs

It's so crowded here

cute dogs advertising for a new ben & Jerry's they are opening

Busy streets again.

I went to the one store called Oriental bazaar and cleaned up. They had nice traditional gifts at decent prices. I was happy, I'm done souvenir shopping. I think I've done enough.

My next stop and it was going on 5:30 now and I was up around walking since 9 something, I was getting tired. But I made my way to Shinjuku. My last stop. I kinda chilled here. I had done my shopping, and was happy with my sights in tokyo. Shijinku is supposed to be like the government area. I just took pics of the buildings.

It won't turn, but this is a karakoke place

me with the cherry blossoms

Sakura

They have this in Japan too

So I ate dinner in the same place where my bus back home was. It was this nice restaurant ont he 52nd floor of this government building.

my appetizer

The seats appeared to be on the floor of the restaurant, but if you look closely, your legs just go underground

I ordered this fried chicken which was good and then this rice porridge

it had rice, shrimp and mushrooms. It was cool

A view from the resturant

this is a very big city, Look how far the tall building stretch out

It was a great day in Tokyo. Happy I had the chance to go. I'm closing down on my days in Japan, and I can officially say I'm ready, I've seen all that I've wanted to see. Coming closer to the end.

Until Next time,
